After breakfast, we took everyone to Hoover Dam. Then it was back to the airport hangar so we could head home.
By the time we arrived at the house, it was late, and the kids were both asleep. We quietly put them to bed before Austin and I retreated to our room.
We didn’t discuss the video call with his parents. The sight of Laura's upset face had stung; she didn’t deserve to be left in the dark like that.
As we were undressing and preparing for bed, Austin’s phone dinged. He picked it up from the nightstand to check the message.
“Um, it’s my mom. She wants us over at her house tomorrow. No excuses—just come,” he said, his brow furrowing.
