Owen runs down the stairs. “I thought I heard a fight. What’s going on?”
Brianna lashes out at me. “Look what you did, drawing my sweet Owen down here to all this commotion and your drama!”
My eyes dart to him immediately. I know he’s almost an adult. It’s not like shocking. But grief hits me hard in the chest.
Anger toward Landon and Brianna swirls with the deep sadness over so much lost time with him. Time that neither of us can ever get back.
Memories of him flood my mind like snapshot photos from his baby book.
There’s a picture of a positive pregnancy test, then me in a babydoll top and leggings with him in the swell of my belly. I’m smiling.
Then a flash of him at the hospital when the nurse laid him naked on my bare chest.
