When the mayor asked me to be in this auction, I didn't think it would be like this. Maybe a couple of bids with a nice, modest number, and then the next person walks on stage. But these lunches and dates were in high demand. People were going for tens of thousands.
When Tanya got up there, I felt my eyes getting bigger and bigger as people bid on her, and the price was going astronomical. I watched Montez. He looked determined, and I secretly hoped he wouldn’t give up as the bids were climbing to half a million dollars.
Tanya looked worried every time a particular gentleman bid. I wondered what that was all about.
Then I heard it. Montez’s bid of $1 million. I gasped so hard. I brought both of my hands up to my mouth to keep the squeal inside. My friend was not playing.
