Malik God, my head pounded. I needed something for the pain. It was unbearable. I picked up the call button and smashed it with my thumb. A nurse came in with a smile. “How can I help you, Mr. Jones?” “My head. It hurts really badly,” I said. “On a scale of 1 to 10, and where?” “All over, but mostly behind my eyes and the temples. It’s way over a 10. “Okay, I’ll give you a little morphine. We’ll see if that takes some of the edge off. How is your arm, your chest, and ribs?” “Painful too,” I mumbled. “What time is it?” “It’s 8 in the morning.” “Has my wife been by?” “No.” Her lips had thinned. What was that about? “Can I have some water?” She nodded and poured me a cup. I took it and drank. It was cool and felt good. She gave me the medication. I closed my eyes, waiting for it
