I walked slowly to Malik’s room. My heart rate was steady, if a little hard. Dr. Ball stopped me when he saw me.

“I understand. Listen. That woman, Trixie, has a big mouth. Some of the nurses overheard her on the phone about your situation. Your story has gone the rounds all over the hospital. You have a lot of women who have your back. There was a meeting to discuss Mr. Jones' situation. Anyone who informs him of the real state of your marriage will be fired on the spot.
