Jeanie Isaiah was doing so well with Chance that I decided to try something different. I replaced the child-size saddle with a soft fleece bareback pad. It would still give Isaiah padding on Chance’s bony back, and he would still have the security of stirrups for his feet and a strap to hold on to. I thought the bareback of would allow Isaiah to feel More of the pony’s body and movement, with less junk to rub against his leg braces. We had also added a bridle with a snaffle bit, even though Gabe was still holding on to the lead line, but Isaiah was learning to hold the reins and direct the pony himself. It seemed to be going well. Isaiah was a natural rider. Despite his disability, or maybe because of it, he had excellent balance and a sensitivity to his seat that took many riders year
