The kid was stubborn. We were working with about twenty different kids in the program, and they all had different quirks and personalities, but Isaiah really had defiant down to a finely tuned art. He didn’t do anything unless he thought it was his own idea.
Luckily, Jeanie had a genius way of flipping the situation and giving the kid choices so that he could choose to do the right thing. Instead of making every task a battle of wills, she let him choose the way. And most of the time, when given the right opportunity, the kid made decent choices.
Kinda made me wonder what my life would have looked like, if I’d had a parent like Jeanie. I mean, my mom was great, but she was old-school, and when we were growing up, she would never take a stand against my father.
