“What?” I’d heard her clearly but I couldn’t quite absorb it. Sweet, calm, level-headed Jeanie couldn’t possibly have killed anyone.
She shook her head. “That’s not the point. The point is, whether she forgives you or not, you still need to make the apology. You don’t have to have it all figured out right now. Just start by saying you're sorry.”
I searched her eyes. I wanted to delve deeper into her story, but something in her expression was clearly warning me to back off. So I literally took a step back to give her some room.
She pasted on a fake smile, “I bet they have the reception hall set up now. Are you ready to go back?”
