Consciousness came back in pieces and the pain arrived first. A sharp throbbing ache behind my eyes pulsed with every bump in the road while nausea twisted through my stomach hard enough to make breathing difficult. Then sound returned. Engine noise, road noise and voices. They were all male voices and my eyes opened slowly but that was a big mistake.
