When his hand finally settled over mine, his eyes closed briefly. I had never seen him look like this. Never. Not once.
"Knox?" I asked.
"You scared the hell out of me." He said as his voice came out rough and tears immediately filled my eyes.
"I'm sorry." I said.
"I thought I lost you." He said.
The confession shattered something inside me. Because I knew he meant it so I reached for his face and he leaned into my touch instantly.
"We're okay." I said as his eyes opened.
Then slowly drifted downward toward my stomach and the movement stole my breath.
For several seconds he simply stared. Awe, fear, wonder. Everything mixed together and finally he laughed.
