Jace's POV The moment Derek told us we needed to leave, the afternoon ended. There was no argument from anyone, because the look on his face told me whatever had happened was serious enough to cut through the one peaceful day we had managed to steal from the chaos. I helped Paige into the truck while the others gathered their things. “What happened?” She asked again. “We'll find out when we get there.” I said. “That isn't an answer.” She said. “I know.” I said and she looked at me. “You're worried.” She said. “I am.” I said so she reached across the console and took my hand. “We'll deal with it.” She said and I squeezed her fingers. “We always do.” I said. The drive back toward town was quiet, although my mind was already running through every possibility. Victor was missing.
