I stared at the apartment door for several seconds. Jace hadn’t knocked loudly asnd he hadn’t called my phone.
He hadn’t tried forcing his way into a conversation I wasn’t ready to have.
He’d simply knocked once, quietly spoken my name and waited.
That alone told me more about him than anything we’d discussed over the past week.
I wiped my face with the sleeve of my shirt before unlocking the door and Jace stood in the hallway holding two takeaway coffee cups. ‘
“I guess.” He said as I looked from him to the cups.
“You guessed what?” I asked.
“That coffee might be safer than flowers.” He said and a laugh escaped before I could stop it. ‘
“You remember Tyler.” I said.
“It’s hard not to.” He said and I stepped aside.
“You’d better come in before the coffee gets cold.” I said.
