Jace’s POV
The call came before I had even finished explaining what we had learned about the new name in the ledgers.
“There has been an attack.” He said as I stopped beside the dining table.
The voice on the other end belonged to Mason, and the urgency in his tone erased every trace of the warmth that had filled the room only minutes earlier.
“Where?” I asked.
“County Road Twelve, near the old quarry entrance.” He said.
“How many?” I asked.
“Four on patrol. We lost contact with two of them, and the other two are pinned down.” He said as I was already reaching for my jacket.
“Who attacked them?” I asked and there was a brief pause.
“Black Reapers.” He said and my jaw tightened.
“They came back.” I said.
“I am afraid so.” He said and I looked at Paige and she was already standing
