NICHOLAS I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous to hear her real thoughts concerning me. We used to be so close and now we could barely stand each other. I waited impatiently as the seconds ticked by but she didn’t say a word. Instead, she just sighed deeply, nestling closer to my body and the warmth that emanated from me. I bit down on my fist to hold back a groan. “He doesn’t want me anymore,” she said finally, her voice barely over a whisper. If the car hadn’t been so quiet, I doubted I would have even heard her. “What do you mean?” I asked, but she said nothing.
