"Axel!" Charlotte cried, immediately rushing towards him.
She wrapped her arms around his, crocodile tears streaming down her face embarrassingly.
"I'm scared, Axel." She whimpered, but before her words could land, Axel removed her arms from around him and tossed them away. She almost lost her balance.
Embarrassment settled over her, but she tried to mask it by dropping to the floor and bawling her eyes out.
Not even Axel was falling for her old tricks anymore.
Took them long enough.
The call connected as Axel put it on loudspeaker.
"Axel, what a surprise." My heart lurched the moment I heard Trevor's voice. I exhaled deeply.
I had known they would stoop this low. I had prepared for it all, yet hearing that man's voice through the phone made my stomach drop.
"Come over right now."
