Cynthia Dion: "I didn't expect you to be so jumpy," he remarked, his gaze fixed on my face in the mirror's reflection. "Yeah, I've been like that lately. Will Flora be there when we arrive today?" I asked, steering the conversation away from my previous slip-up and focusing on something else. "Let's go. They're waiting for us at the breakfast table," he instructed, without addressing my question. He turned and left the room, and I didn't say anything in response. I was cautious not to say or do anything that might upset him, as I felt incapable of challenging or arguing with him. My heart sank before I even made eye contact with anyone when we arrived in the garden, where they were waiting for us.
