The morning air was cold enough to sting. My fingers ached as I tightened the strap of my satchel and stepped out of the lab’s steel doors. After three nights of no sleep and too much caffeine, I should’ve been grateful for the quiet, but quiet never lasts long under the Alpha’s direct watch.
They waited for me now, their eyes following my every move. I was like the only doctor who still bothers to care about the capital’s marble towers and these mud-streaked streets.
