I had turned out of the traffic lane. The twins were already settled in—seatbelts clipped, backpacks thudding to the floor. In the mirror a silver coupe peels from the curb and glues itself close to my bumper.
“Mom,” Elijah says, pushing against his belt, “that car’s following us.”
“Sit back,” I answered. “Keep your eyes ahead.”
Caleb peeks into the side mirror. “Whoever that is, the car looks angry.”
I turned my car's signal on and changed lanes. The coupe mirrors me. I took action immediately and pressed the dash button—DASHCAM ACTIVE glows red—then tap the other and spoke to dispatch. “This is Dr. Lean on Riverbend. There's a silver coupe following me. The plate number ends in six-one, tailgating and cutting close. I have two children with me.”
