The footsteps outside my door did not leave.
The handle turned. The door pushed open slowly.
Daniel stepped inside.
My whole body locked up. I sat straight up in the bed so fast the sheet dropped to my waist. Shock hit me hard. My mouth fell open. Ethan’s younger brother was standing in my room in the middle of the night like he had every right to be there.
“Daniel, what the hell are you doing?” My voice came out too loud. I lowered it fast. “Get out. Ethan was just here a few minutes ago. He could come back any second. Leave. Right now.”
He closed the door behind him without making a sound and walked closer to the bed. His eyes moved over me in the dark.
“I mean it,” I said, pulling the sheet up to cover my chest. “Go. I don’t want any trouble tonight.”
