  Kieran’s POV I was half-asleep, my back hurting from the springs in the small sofa bed, when I heard it.   Someone was moaning on the other side of the room. Low at first, then higher-pitched, long and drawn out like a keening wail. My eyes shot open in the darkness, and in my partially asleep state, I didn’t know what it was for a moment. A banshee, perhaps? Or, more likely, an intruder.   The wails grew louder, turning from cries into shouts, like someone was being attacked. I shot bolt upright and turned toward the noise, only to realize that it was Charlotte.   I stared at her for a moment, not sure what to do.
