Charlotte’s POV
Once Sophia was out of sight, Nora released me. I stood and raced over to where Johnny was.
He saw me coming and gasped, then turned and bolted toward the treeline. But he made it all of four steps before Nora appeared in front of him out of nowhere. She planted herself in his path with her arms folded, forcing him to skid to a stop.
“Johnny!” I caught up and crouched to his level, grabbing his shoulders and forcing him to look at me. “Why did you do that?”
He was crying, tears rolling down his cheeks. “P-Please don’t tell my mom!” he cried. “I-I didn’t—:
“You’re not in trouble,” I said, not that I could speak for his mother. “I just need to understand what happened.”
