Sophia’s eyes were red and puffy from crying. She wrung her hands in her lap and looked down at the floor. “It’s not true,” she whispered. “I would never hurt her, Kieran. You have to believe me.”
“Then explain why my daughter said you took her to that cliff.”
“Because… Because she’s confused!” Sophia looked up at me with pleading eyes. “She’s traumatized from what happened. She probably doesn’t even remember correctly. Kids mix things up all the time, especially after something scary like that.”
