CHAPTER 5

DRAKE POV I don’t know what the hell I was thinking. I mean, I used to carry this girl around on my shoulders. Of course I don’t do that now, unless she wanted me to but I shouldn’t even be thinking about her like that. I’ve never had these thoughts about any woman that I’ve ever seen before and now I’m having them about Skylar. That’s just not right and I know that it’s not. I helped her close up and clean up the restaurant since we were the ones that made the mess and when we got downstairs and she set the alarm and locked the doors I walked over to my Harley. As soon as I sat on the bike I grabbed my helmet and I handed it to Skylar. She put it on her head which meant it was going to be smelling like her after this, but I started the bike and we started down the road with the cop car still sitting across the street. I was watching the car and so was Skylar as she directed me to her house. While riding there I couldn’t believe that she walked this way all the time in the middle of the night. It was further than I thought. And we finally turned down a dirt path and followed it for another couple of minutes through the woods before we came to a clearing that was already full of people and motorbikes. The whole gang was here. As soon as Skylar got off the bike I turned it off I got off as well. I stopped for a minute when I saw the house. It wasn’t anything that I was expecting. It was a white two story house with a basement underneath and a massive lake right outside the house. There were lights everywhere outside and music blasting but it didn’t matter out here because I didn’t see any neighbors anywhere. It was obvious that everyone was drunk but Skylar started walking towards the house and I started following her as we went inside. There weren’t too many people inside the house but Skylar walked to the kitchen and got a couple of beers out and handed one to me. “Drake. Get your ass out here.” One of the guys sang out. Skylar stayed in the kitchen for a bit and I found my way back outside where everyone were drunk and they’d already started a fire around the back of the house. It wasn’t too long before Skylar walked out but before she even made it to us her phone started ringing and she walked away from the noise to take the call. I couldn’t hear what was being said but she looked like she was getting a little pissed off. “Hey. what the f**k are you doing?” Blade asked pulling me aside. “What do you mean?” I asked. “You used to let that girl stand on your shoulders and take her for piggy back rides.” Blade said. “That’s when she was a kid. She’s definitely not a kid anymore.” I said taking a sip of my drink. “She’s still in high school.” Blade said. “She’s a senior and it’s passed Halloween. Which means she’s 18.” I said. “That doesn’t make it right.” He said. “I know. But I can’t help it. Look at her.” I said and Blade also turned to look at Skylar while she was on the phone. “Have you called her Storm yet?” Blade asked. “I completely forgot about that nickname for her.” I said. “She was always like a storm.” He said. “I know. Thanks for reminding me.” I said. “Just be careful. You know what happened with the last b***h you were with.” He said. “Do you really think that’s going to happen here with her?” I asked. “No. I don’t. But just be careful. She’s got four older brothers that are pretty protective and we can’t get involved in that sort of thing. That’s something that you will have to sort out yourself.” He said. “Yeah. I know.” I said. When Skylar walked back over to us after she got off the phone she sat next to me near the fire and I could tell that something was eating at her. “Why do you keep looking at me like that?” I asked. “Well, you seem pretty pissed off since you were on the phone.” He said. “It’s nothing.” I said. “It doesn’t look like nothing.” He said. “It was my boyfriend. So really, it was nothing.” I said. She has a boyfriend. Of course she does. I mean, look at her. There’s no way a girl like her stays single for too long. I bet she’s got guys pawning all over her. I don’t know why she would want anything to do with someone like me when there’s actual stability in her life. Guys that don’t have to leave town at the drop of a hat to evade the law. What was I thinking? I know that I have to stay away from her. But that doesn’t mean I can’t look.
