The brass key sat in the center of the table and somehow it carried more weight than every classified file I had uncovered over the past few years combined. My fingers hovered above it for a second before I finally reached out and the cold metal pressed against my skin as though it had been waiting decades for this exact moment. Atlas watched me quietly and there wasn't an ounce of fear in his expression as federal agents stepped into the room so Wayne nodded toward the elderly man. "We're ready." Wayne said. Atlas slowly stood, adjusted the sleeves of his jacket, and offered his wrists without resistance while the agents secured him with handcuffs. Nobody spoke or celebrated. The room felt strangely peaceful. Atlas turned toward me one last time before they guided him toward the exit.
