The envelope felt impossibly light in my hands, although it carried the weight of an entire lifetime. Everyone else remained in the underground vault while I quietly stepped into a small office that overlooked the old safety deposit room and the dusty window allowed only a narrow stream of afternoon sunlight to reach the wooden desk inside.
