Nobody spoke after Asset One identified Drake’s ex because the revelation landed like a punch and every person in the room seemed to be waiting for someone else to say something first.
Drake stood perfectly still and his eyes never left the old personnel photos Casey had placed on the coffee table.
Casey quietly slid another file toward him.
“I know this is a lot.” Casey said.
Drake didn’t answer. He simply picked up the photo and stared at it for several seconds before setting it back down.
“I don’t want to talk about her.” Drake said.
The room stayed silent and Blade gave him a brief nod.
“We don’t have to.” Blade said.
“You sure it’s her?” Drake asked looking toward Asset One and she slowly nodded.
“I’ve never forgotten her face. People like her weren’t easy to forget.”
