“YOU FOOLS!”  The musicians' instruments screeched to a stop, and an eerie silence fell over the hall.  The duke’s head jerked toward the source of the interruption.  “Mrs. Short!  You should not be here!”  Liam stood slowly, placing his hands on the table as he did so.  He wanted to give her a chance to leave without having to call the guards and make a big scene removing her from the banquet.  “Do you know you are eating at the devil’s table?” Mrs. Short screeched, “You are singing and dancing and celebrating while this wicked succubus has claimed our duke?!”  She pulled an unlit torch out from under her cloak.  The rag wrapped around the end had been soaked in spirits. The sharp smell tinged the air around her. She leaned over and used one of the candelabras to ignite the end.  Blue
