Suddenly, a loud voice pierced the silence.
"Just do it. And don’t come back until you have something useful," someone barked from above, the words slightly muffled but clear enough to make my heart hammer in my chest.
I unconsciously tensed, my body pressing closer to Ralph. He gave my shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "Relax, Linda," he whispered, his breath warm against my ear, a calming presence in the chaos of the moment.
