We drive to the zoo in a car I haven’t seen Zander use before. I can tell its new and its so out of character for him because it’s a Land Rover, and he seems to be an Audi guy. “Whose car is this?” I ask him as I fiddle with the buttons. “Do you like it?” he asks me.
“It’s the latest model Land Rover, of course I like it. Its like Frankie on steroids.” I say and Zander chuckles. “I am glad you like it, because I bought it for you as a New Year’s gift. But with everything that happened, it didn’t seem like the right time to give it to you. You were still in the hospital, and we never celebrated our first New Year together,” Zander says, and I smile.
