Robyn He didn’t mean it. He said the word, but he didn’t mean it that way. He was just using it in a generic way, not specifically. That’s what I told myself to calm my racing heart. I decided I wouldn’t acknowledge it or make a big deal about it. That would be too weird. Things were too crazy already, my head was still whirling with everything that had transpired today, from psychotic ex-girlfriends to dead-dog deliveries. It was one thing if they wanted to be chivalrous and take care of me, but I knew very well that this wasn't a love relationship. I couldn't allow myself to think about love, or to set up unrealistic expectations. That wouldn't be fair to them, and it would only hurt me in the end. “You know,” Phoenix said, taking my hand and lacing his fingers through it.
