KADE The first thing I saw was fire. Not the kind that burns. The kind that breathes, slow and deliberate, circling the edges of the room like it had been waiting. I blinked once, twice, convinced my eyes were lying to me. My whole body felt like someone had wrung it out and hung it to dry. My ribs screamed the moment I shifted.
