That name hit me like cold water straight to the chest. I scoffed, tried to pull air in, couldn't. My lungs just refused. There was air everywhere around me, I could feel it, warm afternoon air, the smell of grass, the compound noise, all of it present, all of it useless because my body wasn't taking any of it in.
I knew why the nightmares came back.
I knew it the moment I woke up sweating days ago, when her face was the first thing behind my eyes. I thought it was just my head playing its old tricks. I thought I was safe. It had been years since she was anywhere near my life, years since I buried that part of myself so deep I stopped checking on it.
Now she was standing in my pack's yard in a pretty dress, smiling at Damon like she was just a sweet old friend.
