Hazel’s POV It had been three days since I got discharged from the hospital, and the tension between Nicholas and me had only grown thicker. We barely talked anymore. Every morning he would kiss my forehead before leaving, make sure I ate breakfast, and double-check that the guards were in place. He was gentle, careful, always making sure I was safe. But then he would disappear for the whole day and come back late at night when I was already asleep. I would wake up to the faint sound of the door closing and the scent of him lingering in the room, but he never stayed long enough for us to have a real conversation. It was killing me. Tonight, I refused to let it continue. I didn’t care how late he returned—I wasn’t going to sleep until we talked. Dimitri had been updating me regularly
