My voice dropped lower. “I know it was wrong. But I couldn’t lose you.”
The room stayed silent for several seconds before I finally spoke again softly.
“Will you look at me now?”
Slowly, she turned toward me. The anger on her face had softened slightly and this time when I reached for her hand, she let me hold it.
“I promise I’ll never lie to you again.”
Her eyes searched mine for a long moment before she finally sighed. “I forgive you.”
Relief instantly flooded through me.
A grin spread across my face before I pulled her closer and kissed her deeply. Goddess, I missed her. Her fingers slid into my hair while she kissed me back softly and for the first time since all of this started, I finally felt like I could breathe again.
