I closed my eyes, but my mind wouldn’t stop racing. Those figures in the lightning flash…they had been watching. Waiting. Soon they would start hurting others. I didn’t want that. I couldn’t live with more blood on my hands. My head felt like it was going to burst from all the fear and guilt. I needed it to stop. I needed to feel something else, anything else. Before I could think twice, I reached up, grabbed Nicholas’s face, and pulled his head down to kiss him. Hard. He groaned against my mouth, his hands instinctively gripping my waist to steady me. He threw the towel around his hip and I felt the heat of his body press against mine under the falling water. “My love… you’re tired. You need rest,” he murmured against my lips, trying to slow us down even as his breathing grew rough.
