When I got her text I had just stepped out of the shower. My temper spiked because of her declining. I was not having that. When she said why, I smiled. She was such a good girl.
I called Michael.
“Boss.”
“What did you find on her?”
“She’s clean. Her mother left when she was thirteen, faked a kidnapping. The police report says that the mother called their house at three in the morning claiming someone took her from her job. She was a bartender. She snuck into the bathroom with one of her kidnapper’s phones and called the father. He could hear someone banging on the bathroom door and muffled shouting.
