Chapter Five : His Return Racheal’s Pov Two years passed quickly in Seattle. Chase was now a happy, running two year old boy with curly dark hair and bright blue eyes. He loved books, trucks, water guns and hugging everyone he met. Every day with him made my heart full. I no longer thought about Alexander Knights every hour. Some days, I did not think about him at all. I have a good life now. I woke up early, took Chase to daycare, then drove to Seattle Tech Polytechnic to teach my business classes. The students liked me. I liked them. The job paid enough for food, rent, and small treats for Chase. Charlie still helped when things got tight, but I tried not to ask too often.My days felt safe, normal and happy. Then, one January morning , everything changed again. I was in the staff room, drinking coffee before class, when my friend and co-teacher, Lisa, rushed in holding her phone. “Rachael, have you seen the news?” she asked, eyes wide. The article said Alexander ’s company was building a large new building in downtown Seattle. They wanted to grow their business on the West Coast. The biggest part is that they were working directly with polytechnics and colleges to train students. Seattle Tech Polytechnic was named as their partner. Knights staffs would visit campuses often. They would give guest talks, choose students for paid internships, and even help plan some classes. My classes Introduction to Business and Workplace Ethics were listed as the first ones they wanted to work with. That meant Alexander , or at least his top people, would come to my school. They could walk into my classroom any day. I felt cold and scared . My hands started to shake. Lisa noticed. “Are you okay? You look pale.” “I… I used to work for Knights Enterprises,” I said quietly. “In New York. A long time ago.” Her mouth opened in surprise. “Really? Wow. Then this is big for you . Maybe you’ll meet the famous Alexander Knights himself.” I forced a small laugh. “Maybe.” But inside, I was scared. That night, after putting Chase to bed, I sat on the couch with my laptop. I searched for more news. There were pictures of Alexander at events still tall, still handsome, still looking powerful in his dark suits. He was smiling in most photos, but I knew that smile could turn cold in a second. One article said he would personally visit the partner schools in the first few months to start the program. The chance of seeing him again was very high now. But none of them talked about his engagement. He should had been married by now . To the beautiful model and heiress Selena I closed the laptop and hugged my knees. Questions filled my head. Did he know I was here? Did he choose Seattle on purpose?
What would he do if he saw Chase our son with the same blue eyes? I was not the same scared woman he fired years ago. I am stronger now.
