Taren gave me the letter after dinner. He didn't tell me who had given it to him until we were back inside the room I shared with Tessa. Lenora came with us, and Taren closed the door after entering. I knew something had happened before he even reached into his pocket.
"Cassian gave me this." Taren held out the folded paper. "His mother found it among Lucan's old records. Cassian wants it kept outside Blackridge."
I took it.
The letter wasn't long, but I read every line twice. Lucan had been seeking support to reduce Aldric's influence months before Silvercrest was destroyed.
