I kept the phone against my ear, trying to understand what Lenora had told me. Victor had visited Pinehaven years ago, claiming he knew where Elias was. He had demanded money instead of helping my brother reach safety. I wanted to know why nobody had contacted me about it.
"Did Victor give you anything to prove Elias was alive?" I asked. "A photograph, a letter, or even a description of him? There must have been something besides his word. Did anyone investigate his claims?"
"The records don't mention any proof," Lenora answered. "The Alpha at the time refused to pay Victor without evidence. Two warriors were sent to find him afterward, but he'd already left the area. I'm checking whether their reports were preserved."
