I had just returned from training when Mara called me into the front room. A man I hadn't seen before stood near the door with a small package in his hand. Mara explained that he was a Pinehaven warrior who had received something meant for me. The moment I saw my name on the envelope, I recognized the writing.
"It's from Cassian." I took it from the warrior and thanked him. "Did he give this to you himself?" I already suspected the answer was no.
The warrior explained that it had passed through someone he trusted outside Pinehaven. He didn't know what was written inside and hadn't been asked to carry a reply. All he knew was that the letter had come from Blackridge. After he left, I took it to my room.
