TESSA I didn’t even feel the moment my fingers slipped off the railing. I just felt the drop—cold air slicing past me, my stomach flipping, the water roaring below like it was calling me home. Then a hand caught mine. A small hand. Shaky. Desperate. My body jerked, and pain shot up my shoulder as I dangled over the side of the bridge. “Hold on!” a girl screamed above me. I blinked up, vision blurring from tears and dizziness. Her face hovered above mine, wide terrified eyes, cheeks wet, breath shaking as she gripped my wrist with both hands. Her sneakers skidded against the pavement as she tried to pull me up, her voice cracking, “Hold on, please!” My other hand dangled uselessly. My legs shook. The world tilted in and out of focus. I wanted to pull my hand away, to fall, to stop
