Syria’s POV “I have a question.” “Go on. Shoot. I don’t mind answering, as long as it’s not something too crazy,” she said with a chuckle. I smiled, but it was a faint, nearly anxious one. My fingers toyed with the edge of my sleeve while I looked for the best way to ask. "Has Kael… ever dated anyone before me?” The grin on Valentin’s face gradually disappeared. She took her time before responding. She leaned her head slightly, her expression shifting into something more serious, more careful. Her silence made my gut churn. My chest constricted as if someone had tied a rope around it and began tugging. “Well,” she began, her voice softer now, “many years ago, yes. Kael did… meet someone. It was during a party. Kind of unexpected, really.” I froze. The air felt heavy around me.
