“Is everything ready?”
I paused the instant he halted in his steps and confronted the man he was supposed to meet.
There he stood, confronting someone I never expected to see him with.
One of Peiqi’s associates was here.

Syria's tribe and Peiqi's tribe shared a dark historical relationship.
Blood was shed, resentments that never truly mended. No positive outcome ever resulted from that man.
