“I can’t believe she really just said that…”
“She has the courage to offend a senior member!”
Murmurs spread among the audience.
I was aware that the whispers from those nearby were not an overstatement. Everyone shared the same concern that I might face serious consequences for confronting someone like her. I can't argue that she appeared strong and impactful.
However, I didn’t back down. Not even when the atmosphere surrounding us grew heavy with strain. I raised my head confidently and stared at her, determined not to reveal even a hint of doubt.
Her lips turned upward in a smile that failed to touch her eyes. She moved closer, narrowing the gap between us until our faces were merely inches away.
