River The room was quiet. The only sound was the soft rhythm of Debbie’s breathing as she slept. I was sitting on the edge of the bed. My mind was racing. Then I heard it. A faint click. Someone was unlocking the door from the outside. I didn't panic. At least not yet. But somehow my mind was doing this flip of anxiety. What if this was Black? Or anyone. I moved like the wind. I surged off the bed, my bare feet making no noise on the smooth tiled floor. Good thing I had thrown my boxers back on.
