Sophia Noah canceled dinner that night, a short apologetic text arriving just as I was closing up the shop, something vague about a work emergency that couldn't wait. I told him it was fine, that we could talk whenever things settled down, even though the small, nagging disappointment lingered longer than I wanted to admit.
