The countryside had changed considerably, and as they made their way west, Hal struggled to keep the flashes of memory at bay.
Finally, he'd had enough. He pulled off at a rest stop and got out to stretch his legs. Sam got out, as well, and watched his face, looking for clues to the source of the melancholy clinging to him.
He caught her watching him with her concern clear to see on her face. That made him smile. He found himself about to pull her into a hug and crossed his arms instead.
"Is there something wrong? Something I can help with?" she asked.
He sighed. He supposed it wouldn't hurt to talk about this.
