Lucius closed the door behind him.
The soft click of the latch sounded louder than it should have in the quiet house. I stood by the table, my hands resting on the wood, unsure what to do with them.
He looked at me for a long moment. “You look nervous,” he said.
“I’m not.”
“You are.”
I didn’t answer. He stepped closer. The space between us became smaller with every step he took.
“I’ve waited a long time for a moment like this,” he said quietly.

“Just listen.” He stopped in front of me. “I know you’re careful. I know you have reasons. But I’m not asking you for forever tonight. I’m only asking you not to push me away please.”
