Two months had passed since Derek was born.
Life had changed in ways I never expected.
The shelter that once felt small and lonely had become our home. During the first week after Lydia and Mara arrived, the three of us worked together to make it bigger. Lydia used her strength to move heavy branches, while Mara gathered wood and leaves. I handled whatever my body allowed.
By the end of the week, we had enough space for all three of us and Derek.
It was not beautiful, but it was ours.
Our days were simple.
Mara helped me bathe Derek and dress him. She was always careful with him, especially at night when the cold became stronger. She could spend several minutes wrapping him properly before placing him beside me.
