CHAPTER 29 An Unquenchable Fire

1210 Words

Cassie locked eyes with Franklin for the briefest, sharpest second, just long enough to feel the cold tension running between them like a blade. But then her gaze shifted to the woman beside him. The woman was elegance personified. Sleek, perfectly styled, wearing luxury like a second skin. Cassie had seen high-fashion women before, but this one carried it with a polished confidence that matched Franklin's aura disturbingly well. Together, they looked like a pair made from the same world. Refined, expensive, untouchable. A perfect match, if perfection meant ice. Cassie absorbed the entire scene in less than a heartbeat before mentally shutting the door on it. She centered herself again, turning her full attention back to Drake as they walked toward the reserved table.
